For more than a decade, The Howard Hughes Corporation has been supporting students at Howard Community College (HCC) through donations to the HCC Educational Foundation (HCCEF). The company, which is the community developer for Downtown Columbia, puts a high value on education.

“Having an educated workforce is critical to the economic well-being of a community, and HCC is essential to the growth and prosperity of Howard County,” said Greg Fitchitt, Howard Hughes’ regional president. “HCC is a premier educational institution, as demonstrated by the college’s recent Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award,” he added.

Over the years, The Howard Hughes Corporation has supported a number of HCCEF events, including the Grand Prix, Vino Scholastico and the Challenge Race. In 2020, the company is joining the college in celebrating its 50th anniversary, serving as the presenting sponsor of HCC’s President’s Gala.

In addition to its event support, The Howard Hughes Corporation has donated nearly $100,000 to the HCC Educational Foundation, and has helped provide scholarships to more than 60 students. The scholarship criteria is applicable to a broad range of people seeking to advance their academic and career goals.

“HCC is an affordable option for students with a wide variety of ambitions and needs,” Fitchitt noted. “It takes in students of all ages and backgrounds, from new high school graduates to adults returning to school to learn new skills. The college is distinguished by providing pathways for skilled immigrants transitioning to the workforce, as well as by providing courses that are crucial in the changing economy. The Howard Hughes Corporation is proud of its connection with HCC.”

And, the company’s relationship with the college remains strong.

“We are looking to expand the partnership with HCC as more businesses and residents move into Downtown Columbia,” said Fitchitt.
