For over 30 years, EMJAY has contracted with the college on building and renovating its growing campus, while also helping to grow student scholarships through gifts to the HCCEF.
Michael Scherr, president and CEO of EMJAY Engineering and Construction Co., Inc., doesn’t hesitate in naming his most influential teacher. He received the lessons of a lifetime from his father, Jerome, who founded their firm in 1954 and contributed his vast knowledge and experience until his passing in early 2016.
Honoring Silas Craft’s Legacy and Impacting Today’s Students – Dorothye Craft
Reflecting on the legacy of her late husband, Silas Craft, Dorothye shares a story that illustrates his character.
“Late one night, the phone rang. It was a man who had been stranded on the road, and he had been given Silas’ name as ‘someone to call’. It was nearly midnight, but Silas picked up this man, a stranger, and let him stay with us for the night,” she remembers. “That is just the type of person he was, and he was that way for his students too.”
STEM Scholar, Kyle Sutton Discovers his Passion at HCC
A STEM Scholar and a Schoenbrodt honors student, Kyle is fast pursuing his passion for computer science at HCC and beyond.
“One of the reasons I came to HCC is that I feel I learn better in a small classroom and a more personalized environment, and that is what I experienced.”
