Performance Opportunities
One of the joys of music is the thrill of performing! TMI's recital series, held at the end of each academic semester, offers this experience to our students. From beginner to advanced, all current students are welcome to perform. (Be sure to chat with your instructor first, though!)
In addition, similar to the importance of a "Carnegie Hall debut", performing in a state-of-the-art visually and acoustically beautiful space like HCC's Monteabaro Recital Hall adds to the thrill and helps students overcome performance anxiety. The warm and intimate space provides a nurturing - rather than nerve-invoking - atmosphere.

Music Institute faculty may schedule recitals for their Institute students throughout the year in the Monteabaro Recital Hall. It gives our students the opportunity to obtain vital experience in a more relaxed performance setting. For those students preparing to participate in the many music competitions for school-aged children, the competition preparation recitals are a good opportunity to become "competition ready".
Community Events & Resources
The Columbia Orchestra annually hosts both its Young Artist Competition and its American Composer Competition. This event is open to all students of string, wind, and percussion instruments through 12th grade who currently reside, attend school, or receive music instruction in Howard County. Previous first place winners are not eligible to reenter the same division. Check out the website for more information.
The Howard County Arts Council annually hosts its Rising Star Competition. Open to performing artists of all disciplines under the age of 30, ten finalists are selected to perform in the HCAC's annual Celebration of the Arts gala, usually in mid-Spring.
