Tuition & Fees

Private Instruction

TMI groups its instructors in tiers, of which there are six (6). Tuition is based on the individual instructor’s tier level and that tier’s rate for a 1/2 hour, 3/4 hour, or one hour lesson multiplied by the number of lessons. Tuition prices range from:

$34.85 to $46.20 for a ½ hour private lesson
$51.05 to $68.10 for a ¾ hour private lesson
$67.20 to $89.90 for a one-hour private lesson

Ensembles and Classes:

The price of group classes and ensembles varies based on the nature of each class or ensemble. View the available classes and ensembles page for complete descriptions, times, and pricing information.

Tuition and fees for classes and ensembles must be paid in full before the student may participate.

Payment for classes and ensembles may not be broken into multiple payments.

Chamber Music Coachings:

Ensembles coachings for 2 or more students are arranged between the instructor and the students. Please inquire with TMI’s Program Manager, James Bailey, for further details.

$10 – Per-Section Fee (for each registered section) – for private lessons; same fee regardless of lesson length

$30 – Ensemble Fee - for each class or ensemble; applies PER ensemble/class registration

Some classes have an additional materials fee.

All fees are non-refundable.

Payment Procedures

Once a registration is received and processed, an e-Invoice is issued from The Music Institute's office staff. This e-invoice will look something like this.

Particularly if you are a new student, check the Spam or Junk folders in your email client. To be certain that you receive e-mail communications, including e-invoices, please add and to your safe senders list.

The student (or parent/guardian) is financially responsible for all classes and lessons registered and attended.

Lessons may not begin until payment, whether partial or full, has been made. AT LEAST one section's tuition and fees are due before private lessons can begin and ALL costs associated with classes or ensembles are due prior to the first meeting.

  1. Visit the Cashier’s Window to make payment directly (hours and location here).

Payment Options

Option 1                      Pay in Full                   Full payment due prior to first lesson/class date

Option 2                      Monthly Payment       This option is only available if you are registering for more than one section.

1st Payment due prior to first lesson/class date. Each subsequent payment should be made by the 1st of each month. You may reference our Billing Chart here.

Lessons may be halted if payment is not received in a timely fashion.

There are no additional fees for making payments in installments.

The HCC Finance Department processes bills for all unpaid balances. Because TMI offers ongoing enrollment, there is often confusion between the Finance bill and the TMI e-invoice. To avoid this confusion, please refer to the TMI e-invoice for information about monthly payment amounts and due dates. As always, if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help!

Withdrawal, Refunds, & Penalties

Withdrawal from Lessons

Notice of withdrawal from instruction and all requests for refunds must be made to the TMI Program Manager in writing (email is accepted). Verbal notice or requests from students, parents, or faculty will not be accepted. Registration and materials fees are not refundable.

A 4-week notice of desire to change instructor or withdraw from lessons altogether is required. Early withdrawal from contracted lessons may incur a four lesson penalty.

Refunds For Private Lessons

For private instruction, there are no refunds for a section that is currently running.

Refund requests made 4 weeks prior to the Start Date of the next section may be granted a full tuition refund. Please reference the TMI Section Chart here.

If a student withdraws from lessons abruptly or without notice, the student will be charged and responsible for payment on an additional section of lessons.

Refunds For Classes & Ensembles

If any class or ensemble has insufficient enrollment, TMI reserves the right to cancel the class and will refund all tuition

There are no refunds for classes, ensembles, or individualized coaching sessions that are in progress.

Refund Checks

Refund checks will be issued by the HCC business office within 21 business days after the written request is received by the TMI Program Manager. For new students, this policy will be effective after the four week trial period.
