The Third Man is a 1949 film noir thriller about a pulp novelist who travels to postwar Vienna and investigates the mysterious death of his old friend. After shooting the film, the crew awarded director Carol Reed a bubble level in response to his frequent use of Dutch angles in the film meant to portray uneasiness and tension. Martin Scorsese wrote a thesis on The Third Man in film school, receiving a B+ for it with the remarks, "Forget it, it's just a thriller." You’ll never forget that zither music. Directed by Carol Reed and starring Joseph Cotton, Alida Valli and Orson Welles. 1 hour, 33 minutes.

Available to rent from Amazon Prime for $3.99
