Mary Badham, nine years old during filming, became the youngest girl to receive an Oscar nomination (for Best Actress in a Supporting Role), losing the award to another child actress, Patty Duke, 14 years old, for The Miracle Worker (1962). In addition, patron receive their seats on a best available basis up to three hours prior to show time.
