Remote Learning Tips

Here are tips to help you be successful while learning online - whether this is your first class, or you are experienced at learning remotely, these practices will help you achieve your goals.

Create a time for study and build a cushion

Need help with time management? Check out this Time Management module in HCC’s Orientation to Online Learning

Break larger tasks into smaller ones

When you achieve those goals, celebrate! Reward yourself with things like a video-chat with a friend, go for a walk, or give yourself a treat.

Prioritize your work using the Canvas Calendar

You can see all of your assignments in one place and decide what to work on first. Set realistic goals. Avoid procrastination - learn more here: https://youtu.be/Qvcx7Y4caQE

Consider disabling your notifications on your phone or computer while you are in your study time.

This will keep distractions to a minimum.

Have a dedicated place to work

Try to find good lighting, a quiet space, and the best internet connection you can.

Read carefully

Read the syllabus, read the course announcements, read your email.  Stay informed and connected!

Participate

Log into Canvas every day.  Email your professors with questions.  Reach out to Student Services if you need help with food, counseling, or other necessities.

Take care of you!

Try these stress management techniques or use whatever stress reduction methods that works for you. Workout, try meditation, or relaxation techniques.

And remember, hitting a bump is OK, that is how you learn and grown strong.

Don’t panic when the technology doesn’t work

There is help if you need it. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new technologies too. Find technology help here.

Giving makes a difference! Your support helps students along their pathways to success.
