HCCEF Scholarship Criteria

The HCC Scholarship Application automatically submits your name for consideration of all scholarships. Following your application a financial aid advisor will review your application and match you to available scholarships. The following represent various criteria used to match you to the best scholarships for your situation.

    Alumni

    HCC Alumni & Friends Endowment Must have 3.0 GPA and one of the students' parents or guardians must have attended HCC.

    Anne Koscielny Music Merit Scholarship

    Students pursuing studies in Music with a preference for piano performance. Must have minimum 3.0 general GPA and a minimum 3.5 in applied instrumental courses.

    In addition to application, student must submit the following documents at the fall semester jury: official transcript; written approval from his/her applied teacher after all semester jury; at least one proof of performance requirement per semester (such as copies of concert programs)

    The Padraic Kennedy Scholarship Endowment  Students must be enrolled in health related curriculum, such as accelerated cardiovascular program for hospital trainees, advanced cardiovascular imaging and interventional therapies, aging services, cardiac monitoring and analysis, emergency medical technician/paramedic, LPN, LPN pathway sequence, nursing (including accelerated) and public health. Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. Candidate selection determined by the Health Services Department
    Leffler Scholarship Fund/Howard Hospital Fund Students pursuing studies in Health Care with a minimum 2.0 GPA who graduated from a Howard County high school within the past three years. Candidate selection determined by the Health Services Department

    Must be a first or second year clinical nursing student who demonstrates clinical competence, kindness, understanding, compassion and proficiency in nursing courses.

    Marion Durkan Memorial Endowment Students pursuing studies in Nursing with a minimum 3.25 GPA and a 3.5 GPA in nursing courses in their first year at HCC. Must demonstrate a personality and character that will translate into a positive contribution to the nursing profession (benevolent and ebullient disposition and works well with faculty and fellow students).

    Bernadene Hallinan Nursing Scholarship Students must be pursuing studies in Nursing with preference given to students participating in the Student Nursing Association (SNA). Candidate selection determined by the Director of Nursing
    Gay Cope Heitlinger Scholarship Student must be pursuing a program of study in Nursing with a minimum 2.5 GPA who must also be dependable, wants to make improvements in the administration of nursing care, be involved in civic and college activities and have a positive and helping attitude. Candidate selection determined by the Director of Nursing

    Must be a Career Links program participant pursuing studies in Nursing.

    Must be a first or second year clinical nursing student with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Must be at least 25 years or older and a single parent. Applicants must have completed most prerequisite courses prior to the beginning of the nursing curriculum.

    Project Access Endowment Must have participated in a Project Access Summer Institute, currently enrolled for 6 or more credit hours and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference is given to students who demonstrate that they are giving back to the college community. Students should apply with Project Access Director.

    Military and Veterans Community Assistance Scholarship Students in the military and veteran community who need assistance when other financial aid resources have been exhausted, or other circumstances inhibit their use of financial aid resources.     Military and Veterans Mission Accomplished Scholarship Students in the military and veteran community who are in the last term of their program of study to help reduce financial burdens while transitioning to the next phase of their academic or career goals.     Public/Community Service

    Environmental Endowment Students must have environmental goals that have contributed to environmental issues and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Candidate selection determined by the Financial Aid Scholarship Committee
    K.L. Lim/Col. John F. Twombly Memorial Endowment Student of Asian origin (foreign or domestic) preferred or career objectives-public service.  Candidate selection determined by the Director of International Education
    Rotary Club of Ellicott City Scholarship - Service Learning Students must have completed an HCC course-based service learning community project OR participated in an HCC alternative break trip. Students must commit to volunteering with a HCC service learning community partner for a minimum of 12 hours during the fall semester. Candidate selection determined by the Service Learning Area

    Must be a United States Citizen, at least 18 years of age, and a Maryland resident. Must have completed at least 12 credits in their program of study with a minimum 3.0 GPA.     STEM Scholars Program

    Students who are current HCC students who are pursuing programs of studies in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Environmental Science, Information Technology, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physical Science, Pre-Allied Health, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Medicine, Pre- Nuclear Medicine Technology, Pre-Optometry, Pre-Pharmacy, or Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and who has attained a GPA of at least 3.20.

    Student should have completed a semester at HCC and be enrolling in college level math courses. Teacher/Counselor Recommendation is also required. (There is a separate application for new incoming HCC students through Admissions and Advising).
