STARTALK Faq

Will the STARTALK program commence this summer?
No, unfortunately due to the current global health pandemic the STARTALK summer 2020 program has been postponed until summer 2021.

If I’ve already submitted a completed application, when should I anticipate receiving a decision?
Students will not receive a decision based on their current application.

Will I need to reapply next year?
Yes, all current applicants will need to reapply next year and provide all updated supplemental items.

Are there any additional fees I should anticipate covering during the summer 2021 program.
No, all course and field trip costs will be covered.

If I am a current high school senior, will I still be able to participate in the program next year?
This question has been proposed. However, at this time we do not have a final decision to report. Please check back for further details regarding this particular question.

Does HCC offer any other foreign language learning opportunities during the summer that students can participate in?
If students are passionate about continuing their world language education, HCC has summer options! Students are able to enroll in our online summer offerings of Spanish, French, Chinese, and Ara-bic. Courses will require tuition, but students can audit the program in the summer of 2021 to receive the STARTALK experience.
Tuition costs can be found here: https://www.howardcc.edu/admissions-aid/pay-for-college/tuition-rates/

Are there any additional opportunities for STARTALK alumni, who have completed 101 & 102 of a target language?
Alumni are always welcome to return as volunteers! Our volunteers act as peer leaders modeling the language while speaking and listening with instructors and students in their target language.
More details on how to volunteer are forthcoming!

Giving makes a difference! Your support helps students along their pathways to success.
