Health Care for the Professional Admissions

This program is designed for individuals working as allied health professionals who want to advance in the area of health care management or to broaden their knowledge in their professional area. Students who are currently licensed, registered, or certified in an allied health field are eligible to apply for admission to this program and receive advanced standing. Advanced standing credit will be awarded for previous education and experience after successfully completing the English, mathematics, and science requirements.

Steps to Apply

  1. Submit an HCC application for admission.
  2. Take placement tests, if applicable: Students may be exempt from the placement test if they have transcripts showing completion of college-level English and/or math at another academic institution, qualifying High School GPA or SAT/ACT test scores. Please speak to an advisor to review your options.
  3. Submit official college transcripts from all colleges attended. Fill out an Official Transcript Evaluation Form and submit to the Office of Admissions and Advising (RCF-242).

Cardiovascular Technology Option

  • This option is for students who have completed a training program or a certificate of proficiency in cardiovascular technology and have successfully completed the national certification examination to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
  • Upon completion of general education degree requirements, graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science.

Emergency Medical Services Option

  • This option is offered to students who are currently certified or licensed at a state or national level as an Emergency Medical Services Technician - Paramedic, who have completed their training in a setting other than the credit-bearing EMS program at HCC.
  • Upon completion of general education degree requirements, graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science.

Massage Therapy Option

  • This option is offered through an articulation agreement between the Baltimore School of Massage and Howard Community College.
  • Upon completion of degree requirements, graduates of the Baltimore School of Massage receive an Associate of Applied Science from HCC.
  • The Baltimore School of Massage curriculum is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission, nationally approved by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), the Commission on Massage Training Accreditation (COMTA), and accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).
  • Howard Community College students may complete theory courses in the massage therapy option and transfer to the professional massage training program at the Baltimore School of Massage; students will then be prepared for a career in the practice of therapeutic massage. Graduates of the Baltimore School of Massage are eligible to apply to take the National Certification Examination in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB).

Radiologic Technology Option

  • This option is offered to students who have completed an accredited Radiologic Technology program and have achieved certification. 
  • Upon completion of general education degree requirements, graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science degree.
