Suspension and Dismissal of Employees Without Term of Contract Procedure - 63.12.04
College Policy Number/Title:
Howard Community College employees without term of contract are “at will,” which means that the employment relationship can be ended at any time, for any reason, or no reason by the college. See policy 63.03, Employment and procedure 63.03.01, Employment Definitions for definition of term of contract.
The president or a designee is authorized to dismiss or impose an unpaid suspension on such employees without requiring procedural due process. There are no appeal rights for employees without term of contract. In cases where non-term of contract employees do have contracts for a limited term, such as adjunct faculty members, the president or designee may dismiss or suspend such employees for cause after minimal due process (a meeting). There is no right of appeal.
