College Policy Number/Title:
Howard Community College (HCC) provides a healthy, drug-free, and safe learning environment. The college recognizes the epidemic of heroin- and opioid-related deaths in the state and the health problem and potential safety issue the epidemic poses for the college community.
Incoming full-time students are required to participate in an online or face-to-face heroin and opioid addiction and prevention awareness training. HCC will provide part-time students and employees with resources that will alert and educate them regarding heroin and opioid addiction and prevention.
In an effort to protect the health and safety of the campus community, HCC will maintain a supply of overdose-reversing medication to be used in the case of emergencies. Public safety officers and other designated personnel will be trained: to recognize the symptoms of heroin and opioid overdose; in the procedures for the administration of overdose-reversing medication; and in the proper follow-up emergency procedures related to heroin and opioid overdose.
