College Policy Number/Title:
Howard Community College will provide incentive pay for the attainment of qualifying degrees or graduate certificates from accredited institutions.
Eligibility
Full- and part-time budgeted and temporary with benefits staff and faculty are eligible to receive the incentive. A qualifying degree or certificate must be earned from an accredited institution on or after July 1, 2017. The incentive will only be given for a degree or certificate at a higher level than the employee already possesses, and each incentive level may only be given once to an employee.
Incentive Pay
Incentives will be added to an employee’s base pay, in the amounts shown below.
Level of achievement | Full-time employee | Part-time employee |
Associate degree | $300 | $150 |
Baccalaureate degree or graduate certificate | $500 | $250 |
Graduate degree or post-graduate certificate | $700 | $350 |
Doctoral degree | $1,000 | $500 |
Process
Employees who earn a qualifying degree or certificate must contact the office of human resources to request the incentive. Proof of the earned degree or certificate and date earned must be provided. After verification of completion by human resources, salaries will be adjusted at the beginning of the next full contract period.
Qualifying degrees/certificates earned during the initial staff and faculty probationary periods are eligible for the incentive. The incentive pay for a full-time staff member who is in the initial probationary period will be effective on the first pay period after completing the initial probation. The incentive pay for a new part-time staff member will be effective on the first pay period after one year of employment. Faculty completing a qualifying degree/certificate during the initial probationary period will receive the incentive at the beginning of the next full contract period, even if still on initial probation.
Staff and faculty who are approaching or who have reached the maximum of their salary range are eligible for the incentive, but the portion of the incentive that exceeds the maximum of the salary range will not accrue to the base salary for merit calculations.
An employee who qualifies for an incentive but is in unpaid status at the time the incentive would normally be effective, will instead receive the salary increase upon returning to paid status.
