Helping Hands Fund Procedure - 63.07.25
College Policy Number/Title:
The Howard Community College Helping Hands Fund was established to provide emergency financial assistance for eligible employees who experience extreme situations (e.g., disability, household disaster, etc.).
Eligible employees in good standing with the college include full- and part-time budgeted employees regardless of service time and adjunct faculty and temporary employees with at least five years of service. Exceptions to the eligibility requirements may only be made with approval from the president or area vice president.
The Helping Hands Fund may not be used to pay tuition, fees, or book costs. Disbursements are limited based on available funds. The same individual may only obtain a disbursement once in a twelve-month period.
Employees request funds by submitting an Employee Helping Hands Application, which is available on the portal, to the Office of Human Resources with supporting documentation to verify a justifiable need.
Human resources personnel will review the request in a timely fashion after receipt of the formal written request. The request may be approved for the amount requested, approved for a different amount, or denied. If approved, a check request will be submitted to the development office, with a goal to have a check available within five working days of request.
