Wellness Program Procedure - 63.07.21
College Policy Number/Title:
Howard Community College provides a wellness program for employees. The goals of the program are to enhance the health and productivity of employees and to reduce and control the college's health care costs.
The program consists of two components offered to all employees, budgeted and temporary, at no charge: exercise classes and wellness education programs. Exercise programs are attended on employee time, not work time; for example, during lunch breaks or before or after work hours. Employees must sign a waiver provided by human resources prior to attending any exercise class. Wellness education programs may be attended on work time with supervisory approval.
Full-time budgeted employees may extend their lunch hour by 30 minutes up to three times a week, with supervisory approval, in order to attend a college-sponsored exercise program.
All employees are eligible for an incentive award if they complete a set of wellness requirements, including a minimum of three hours of exercise per week and two wellness education programs per semester. To be eligible for incentive awards, the employee must maintain and submit after each semester a wellness log available on the wellness portal page. Exercise done both within and outside of the college’s wellness program counts toward meeting the exercise requirement for the incentive awards.
A cross-functional wellness committee exists in order to obtain suggestions and feedback from employees across campus about the wellness offerings.
