Howard Community College believes that it is in the best interest of the college, its employees and students, and the citizens of Howard County, to employ a diverse workforce in terms of race, ethnicity, sex, religion, sexual orientation, ability/disability, and other demographic factors. The college takes affirmative action, within legal and regulatory guidelines, to employ, retain, advance, and eliminate bias towards minorities and those with disabilities.
All hiring and employment decisions are based on qualifications and performance, but proactive steps are taken to diversify applicant pools, develop internal talent among underrepresented groups, and provide a culture of inclusion for minorities and those with disabilities. The college regularly reviews its hiring, development, and promotional practices and results to assess the success of its affirmative action efforts and determine if changes are necessary.
