College Procedure Number/Title:
Howard Community College fosters an environment that is inclusive and supportive for the constituents of its community. The college encourages respect of persons of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, races, religions, ethnic backgrounds, abilities, and disabilities, as well as the values of equal rights, equal access, and equal treatment. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are focal concerns in all aspects of the college including, but not limited to, recruitment and hiring practices, faculty and staff training opportunities, and professional development offerings. Moreover, the college is committed to fostering an environment of inclusive excellence for its students, ensuring that selective admissions programs, student enrollment, public relations, marketing, academic support, enrichment programs, and student activities reflect the diversity of the campus community.
The college succinctly defines diversity, equity, and inclusion as a reality created by individuals and groups from a broad spectrum of demographic and philosophical differences.
Budgeted staff and full-time faculty members are required to participate in two diversity training sessions per professional development year in addition to a specified number of required professional development hours as noted on employee annual plans and performance appraisals.
