Awarding Honorary Degrees Procedure - 61.07.01
College Policy Number/Title:
Howard Community College will award an honorary degree to an individual for one or more of the following reasons:
- to recognize an exceptional scholarly, intellectual or artistic achievement;
- to recognize extraordinary service to the institution; or
- to recognize outstanding contributions to the community.
Nominations for honorary degree recipients should be made to president’s team via the executive associate to the president by January. Nominations may be submitted by board members, individual employees, college offices and departments, and committees or cross-functional teams. Selected nominations will be recommended by the president to the board of trustees’ legislative and community relations committee (LCR). The LCR will recommend the final slate of nominees to the board of trustees for approval.
