Raquel Levrone's success as a Nursing Director at Brightview Columbia Senior Living is in large part thanks to her experience in Howard Community College's (HCC) Nursing Education program.
"Along with small class sizes, direct access to professors, and multiple career resources, HCC provides several outlets and programs you can tap into to help you grow, not only as a student but as a person who is learning more about themselves and their goals," said Levrone.
HCC's Nursing Education program offers a thorough curriculum that develops a clear pathway to success for its participants.
"HCC offers a Patient Care Technician Program (PCT), a non-credit certification program that allows you to gain advanced nursing assistant skills. Thanks to this program, I was certified to work in a broader range of nursing units, the intensive care unit (ICU), and the emergency department before I even started nursing school."
Armed with an array of medical knowledge and nursing skills, Raquel was able to aid doctors in the emergency room during the COVID-19 staff shortage. "HCC prepared me for my role as a nurse in multiple capacities. From work in the ICU to skilled nursing to assisted living at BrightView, I am prepared for any nursing emergency."
After graduation, Raquel searched for a facility that offered growth opportunities and found a home at Brightview. The facility provided a strong growth track for its employees and was eager to engage with the community.
“Our number one goal is to support our associate’s growth and aspirations. We want to be an employer of choice and support flexible scheduling so that we can support school endeavors and aspirations classes and different levels of commitment to our organization,” Brightview Executive Director Kadine Mitchell said.
"BrightView is a very innovative company, and we are always looking for ways to inspire future nurses," Levrone said.
As a beneficiary of the growth track, Raquel experienced firsthand the impact the program could have on fellow HCC nursing school graduates. She pioneered a partnership between HCC and BrightView to provide real-life clinical experience to nursing students.
Raquel is currently on her way to becoming a Regional Nursing Director at BrightView. Upon reflecting on her journey, she raved about the accuracy of the HCC slogan: You Can Get There from Here.
