After Laurie’s daughters moved out on their own, this business degree graduate chose to channel her energy and love of children into a part-time job as a preschool teacher’s aide in a Catholic elementary school. When medical issues affected her husband’s earning power and health benefits, Laurie earned child care certification to qualify for a full-time teaching position. Previously enrolled in HCC’s teacher education program, Laurie worked on an early childhood education certification for a new archdiocese requirement.

“I love college so much more the second time around. I feared being the tech-illiterate dinosaur in the class – but there are other students my age or older, faculty and IT staff are so helpful, and some courses are offered in a hybrid format that combines online convenience with classroom support.”
