Carol

Carol was at her local YMCA in Santa Barbara and looking for a way to de-stress when she noticed a group of women dancing. Intrigued, she found out that the group was doing nia, which combines dance, martial arts, and mindfulness while toning the body and transforming the mind. She gave it a try and immediately she was hooked.
When Carol moved back to Columbia, she looked for places that offered nia and met instructor Claudia Salomon, who taught a nia course at HCC. HCC has helped hundreds of residents maintain their health and wellness through a wide selection of personal enrichment courses for over 25 years. HCC’s nia personal enrichment course seemed like a strong option and has helped Carol stay healthier because she is in more touch with her body.
“You can be sure that a course at HCC will be run by a competent and excellent faculty member,” Pearson explains. “Claudia is good at helping you do nia at the level that you can and can’t. She has such a beautiful way with people. You can see that she cares about everyone that walks in the door and she gives feedback in a lovely way.
“I think I am healthier because I am more in touch with my body with nia. As I’m getting older, it’s important to retain more flexibility. I have a condition that makes it hard to do yoga but this is another mode I can do without any problem.”
