The classes I took at HCC helped me gain focus...I’ve learned that my time is valuable and I need to invest it carefully and strategically to make the most of my business model.”
Planning Extraordinary Events and Travel

Anne launched a successful travel and event planning business 15 years ago but wanted to build some new skills to fine-tune her long-term plan and strategic approach. Specializing in corporate, social, and destination event planning made her client base a bit too broad and diverse. The time was right for Anne to define a true target demographic based on her goals and the types of clients she was most interested in working with. Pursuing an associate’s degree and series of certifications through HCC’s Hospitality and Culinary Studies Programs opened a door for her to do exactly that.

“The classes I took at HCC helped me gain focus, and realize how I could position myself as a specialist in a few key niches within the travel industry, instead of a generalist who did a little bit of everything,” said Anne, owner of Travel & Events Extraordinaire. “It helped me figure out what to do, and what not to do, as I move forward. I’ve learned that my time is valuable and I need to invest it carefully and strategically to make the most of my business model.”

Today, Anne focuses on providing travel and event planning services for couples, families, senior citizens, large groups, and those in need of customized accessible travel arrangements. This means that on any given day, she could be coordinating logistics for a large destination wedding, finalizing details for a big family reunion, and helping an elderly couple plan an adventure to a new place that will be easy to navigate, despite mobility challenges. Based on her industry experience and connections, she was also invited to serve as an adjunct faculty member at HCC. She is enjoying the opportunity to educate and inspire others who wish to pursue careers in the hospitality industry.

“I realize that my clients are entrusting me with something very precious and meaningful,” said Anne. “It’s about giving people memories that will make them smile for years to come. I get to have a part in making that happen, and that is what I love most about the work I do every day.”
