World Premier of the Murder Mystery Musical Dorian's Closet Takes Shape

The Baltimore Sun recently featured HCC's professional regional theatre in residence, Rep Stage, and its work on the world premiere of "Dorian's Closet." The new musical, which will open in April 2017, takes a closer look at the life of Dorian Corey, the legendary female impersonator immortalized in the documentary “Paris Is Burning.”
The story is a fictionalized account of Dorian’s life and what leads to the discovery of a mummified body in her Harlem apartment’s closet after her death in the early 1990s. Confronted with ridicule and prejudice, she persisted in her quest for love and fame. From Dorian’s early days touring the drag circuits of the 1970s, through her rise in the underground club scene in New York City in the 1980s and beyond, “Dorian’s Closet” takes us on a musical journey that explores just how far we will go to make our dreams a reality.
Los Angeles-based playwright Richard Mailman wrote the books and lyrics, and Baltimore-based composer Ryan Hasse wrote the music. "Dorian's Closet" is scheduled to run April 27* to May 14, 2017, at the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College.
