
Vivian Moore Lawyer, Esq. Appointed to Howard Community College Board of Trustees
Vivian Moore Lawyer, Esq. is the newest member of the Board of Trustees of Howard Community College (HCC) and will serve until June 30, 2027. Christopher Marasco, outgoing HCC board chair, has been reappointed to the board through June 30, 2029. Appointed by the governor of Maryland, the HCC board of trustees is the college's legal governing body. The board exercises general oversight and establishes policies for implementing the mission of the college.
Vivian Moore Lawyer, Esq. began her career in higher education and administration serving as a student services professional at Bowling Green State University after obtaining her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the university. She went on to earn a Juris Doctor degree from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, in Washington, D.C., and became a certified professional coach through the Center for Coaching Certification. For 12 years she served as Chief Human Resources Officer at Montgomery College in Maryland, after 10 years as Director of Employment and Development in Human Resources. Lawyer has served on the Human Rights Review Committee, and has chaired both the Howard County Personnel Board, and the Howard Community College Educational Foundation Board (HCCEF). Lawyer has been involved in other local, non-profit associations such as the Columbia chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, The Links, Incorporated, the African American Community Roundtable-Howard County (AACR), and the Equity Collaborative.
In addition to the appointment of Ms. Lawyer, board chairperson Christopher Marasco was reappointed to the board and will remain a trustee through June 30, 2029. Marasco was first appointed to the board of trustees in 2017 for a six-year term and was elected as board chair in 2021. He is a distinguished alumnus of Howard Community College, received the 2015 HCC Trustees’ Award for significant service to the college, and has also served as the board of trustee’s liaison to the Howard Community College Educational Foundation, Inc.
Mr. Marasco is a senior vice president with Sandy Spring Bank, formerly Revere Bank. Before joining Revere Bank, he held the position of senior vice president, relationship manager from 2004 to 2018 for Howard Bank. Mr. Marasco has held many community leadership positions. He is a former board member for the Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE), and previously served on the boards of the American Heart Association, The Baltimore Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Community Foundation of Howard County, the Maryland Science Center, The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, and Voices for Children.
