Unique Exhibit Showcases Photos By CORE Students

The college’s Continuing Education Division hosted a one-day photography exhibit, "Focus on Spring at HCC," which showcased student learning in the five-day-a-week program for adults with developmental disabilities called CORE (Community Opportunities in Recreation and Enrichment).
The CORE program teaches students life skills, provides educational enrichment in a college setting, and encourages involvement in the community. Students improve their communications, gain confidence, and build self-esteem needed for independence, and recently learned photography. During the spring semester, students read about cameras and the art of photography, and then practiced their creativity by photographing the college campus.
The June 19 exhibit provided an opportunity for students, their families and the college community to celebrate the photos and culmination of their learning over the past year. The exhibit – which took place for the first time last year – was a point of pride for students, their families, and the instructors in the program.
