Training & Development Solutions Webinar Series Offers Skills to Succeed in Today’s Work Environment

Experts to Provide Free Training to Businesses and Working Professionals

Howard Community College’s newly rebranded Training & Development Solutions is hosting a series of virtual training webinars that will provide business professionals with the critical skills necessary to succeed in today’s work environment.

Training & Development Solutions offers a wide array of occupational advancement resources. Their webinar series will focus on building skills that have become increasingly important in light of the current pandemic, including cross-cultural communication, employee resilience, and awareness and inclusion. The training will be led by subject-matter experts from Training & Development Solutions and followed by a live Q&A. Free and open to the public, the webinars take place at noon EST. Participants are asked to register at howardcc.edu/TDSwebinars.

Thursday, February 25 - "Cross-Cultural Communication Confusion: Five Tips for Communicating Across Languages and Cultures"

Communicating with colleagues from other language and cultural backgrounds is more important than ever before. This presentation will broaden your understanding of how language and culture affect communication and provide you with five tips for improving your communication.

About the Trainer: Brad Knieriem has a master’s degree in applied linguistics from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He has taught linguistics and English as a Second Language (ESL) for more than ten years, working both domestically and abroad. Prior to entering the ESL field, he worked in federal IT contracting at several companies across Northern Virginia, D.C., and Maryland.

Thursday, March 11 - "Building Employee Resilience"

The COVID-19 pandemic has exhausted us and continues to do so. People have given up on self-care, are experiencing high levels of fatigue, and stress levels are off the charts. Resilience skills are 100% learnable and will help to master this adversity. Resilience is not about ignoring stress; it is much more than just coping. Resilient people recover faster under pressure and have lower levels of anxiety and depression. This results in less employee turnover, less absenteeism, and fewer healthcare costs for employers. Through this training, learn how workplace resilience is a must during this continuing crisis and help your employees build lifelong skills to manage and bounce back from stress, no matter the cause.

About the Trainer: Jackie Hill is an energetic and engaging educator and facilitator with over 14 years of experience in adult learning. She is passionate about holistic health and well-being and is most energized when helping people along their wellness journey. She is an In Our Own Voice presenter for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), helping to reduce the stigma of mental illness. A flexible trainer with over 3,000 hours of adult education and facilitation, she has taught for many public and private sector companies.

Thursday, March 25 - "Increasing Success Through Awareness and Inclusion"

Our lives are significantly impacted by the unconscious biases and associations that guide our decisions. Increasing our awareness of these biases will enhance our ability to appreciate diverse perspectives and achieve our goals. An inclusive work environment where all are comfortable to engage and contribute is a key component of maximum success.

About the Trainer: James A. Parker is an adjunct faculty member of Howard Community College with over 20 years of training experience in diversity and inclusion, equal employment opportunity, and conflict resolution. He has written, developed, and delivered training in these areas for senior leadership, management, and staff. Utilizing his diverse background in the corporate, retail, hospitality, nonprofit, research and development, and federal government sectors, Mr. Parker has produced positive and sustained results in the workplace. By engaging the spectrum – from frontline workers to senior management – he has achieved organizational goals and improved workplaces by leveraging the principles of respect, effective communication, and inclusion.
