Fahimeh Vahdet artwork at HCC.

Columbia, MD – Howard Community College (HCC) continues the tradition of bringing compelling, dynamic, and powerful art to the greater Baltimore region with the arrival of two exhibitions in the college’s galleries beginning October 7, 2019.

“Get Your Power Back,” a multi-media exhibition by installation artist, Fahimeh Vahdat, recipient of the Rubys Artist Grant in 2018, will take place October 7 – November 25 in the Rouse Company Foundation Gallery, located within the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA). The exhibition examines the parallel state of domestic violence in Iran and the United States. A panel discussion will be held November 14, from 2 – 3:30 p.m. in HCC’s Monteabaro Recital Hall, featuring guest panelists from the Tahirih Justice Center and the Hope Works Center.

Located in the Richard B. Talkin Family Art Gallery on the first floor of McCuan Hall is “Reconstruction,” by artist Nadia Mohamed. In this multimedia exhibition, Mohamed uses fiber and mixed media to demarcate time, experience, and memory and the healing of wounds through the processes of suspending fabric, mending, and embroidery. The exhibition runs October 7 – November 17.

Both exhibits are free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. Receptions for each exhibit will take place in their respective galleries at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
