Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Team Finish Second in Nation

The Howard Community College Dragons men’s and women’s lacrosse teams finished their seasons second in the nation. Both teams played in the final games of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Lacrosse National Championships Sunday, May 14.

Men’s lacrosse battled Onondaga Community College Lazers at the David W. Murphy Field at Onondaga Community College (Syracuse, NY). It was closely fought match, with the teams tied at 6-6 at the half. Onondaga pulled ahead in the third quarter, but HCC tied the game in the fourth quarter. The teams remained locked at 14, until Onondaga scored its winning goal with just three minutes left to game end. The final score was 15-14. At the conclusion of the championship, HCC players Mark Bowser, Ian Decker, and Adam Friedman were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Women’s lacrosse took on the Monroe Community College Tribunes (NY) May 14 at Siegert Field at Anne Arundel Community College (Arnold, Md.). This was only the second time in program history that the HCC women's lacrosse team has gone to the NJCAA nationals, and the first time that the team has made it into the finals. Despite best efforts, the HCC team lost 3-12, giving MCC its fifth straight women's championship. HCC’s three scorers – Olivia Canby, Silvia Kim, and Kelsey Scott – were named to the All-Tournament Team.
