Howard Community College to Offer 37 New Noncredit Courses This Spring

Howard Community College (HCC) is offering over 30 new noncredit continuing education courses this spring. Online registration begins Feb. 19; walk-in, fax, and mailed registrations start March 10. Mailed brochures reach county residences the first week of March.

New courses are offered in business, entrepreneurship, event planning, computers and IT, health care, and lifelong learning. There are also new offerings for the 60+ population.

Residents interested in business, entrepreneurship, and event planning can choose topics ranging from how to start a franchise business to how to produce a fashion show. New human resources professionals can build skills in employee management and handling challenging HR issues in the new SHRM Essentials of HR Management course. Residents interested in becoming Reiki practitioners can gain professional training in Usui Reiki Levels I & II.

Designers, innovators, and techies interested in developing technology solutions in healthcare can take a new one-day boot camp to learn more about the managerial, financial and operational issues within healthcare as well as the range of technologies and innovations being applied. The seminar is offered through the Maryland EARN program in partnership with the Robert H. Smith School of Business and the Maryland HealthTech Coalition.

Healthcare professionals with an up-to-date certified nursing assistant license can take a new Nurse Assistant for the Pediatrician Office course to gain training in more advanced care as it relates to child centered care in the physician’s office. This new course along with the Advanced Patient Care Skills course, a returning favorite, will be offered in a hybrid format that combines in-person and online class meetings.

New lifelong learning courses cover a broad range of interests from cake decorating basics to printmaking. For high school students, the How to Find a Summer Job course has been added for students to find out how to get a head start over other teen job hunters. For Maryland residents age 60 and above, topics in the arts and history have been added.

Most classes are grade-free and exam-free, except licensure/certification offerings. Businesses may also arrange customized training for groups of staff members on the company site or at the college’s business training facilities.
