Howard Community College to Hold Ribbon Cutting for New Parking Garage
As Howard Community College’s enrollment grew over the past decade, the parking infrastructure could not keep pace with demand. For students, parking became the number one concern, and investing in new parking for students became a priority. Howard Community College will celebrate the opening of its newest parking garage—a 736-space expansion of its East Garage—with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Friday, January 27 at 11:30 a.m.
The celebration marks the successful completion of a $16.4 million project that began planning in the summer of 2012, with major construction commencing in February 2016. Funding for the garage was provided by the college, Howard County government, and a bond sale.
Among the features of the new garage are a new access road directly from Little Patuxent Parkway to help alleviate congestion and delays entering campus and to promote more efficient access to parking. The garage also has a covered pedestrian bridge for safe access from the garage to the campus.
The garage will open to students on Monday, January 30, just in time for the start of the spring semester of credit classes.
