HCC Offers Classes for High School Students, Recent Graduates, and Learners of Any Age

JumpStart student.

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the world as we know it, and college is no exception. When the time came to move classes and instruction online, Howard Community College was ready. The college tapped into years of expertise in online and remote instruction for a smooth transition. Faculty are trained and experienced in online course delivery, with the systems and staff in place to provide support and a positive learning experience for all students.

As Dr. Kate Hetherington, president of Howard Community College, wrote in the Baltimore Sun: “Community colleges provide Maryland families with a certainty: a wonderful educational value right in your backyard (or online).”

For current high school students, Howard Community College’s robust dual enrollment programs provide consistent and quality online education. Dual enrollment allows high school students to earn college credits that also count towards high school graduation requirements. This is a great option for students and parents who want to get a jumpstart on college, get ahead, and save time and money of future education.

For this fall, HCC is following its recovery plan for classes, services, and operations, which prioritizes the health, safety, and well-being of students, faculty, and staff above all else. As a result, HCC will have a blended learning environment this fall with classes offered in three different formats:

  1. Hybrid (learn both in person and online),
  2. Scheduled remote (meet virtually at designated times in an online classroom), and
  3. Flexible online (study on your own time at your own pace).

These three formats ensure students will find classes that fit their learning style and their schedule. No matter the goal – earn college credits while still in high school, graduate with an associate degree, transfer to a four-year university, or acquire career training – HCC is here for you.

Learn more about HCC, attend a virtual information session, or meet online with an advisor – visit howardcc.edu/apply. Whether remote or in person, our mission remains the same… providing pathways to success.
