HCC Dance Program Presents Howard County Community Dance Festival Gala
Columbia, MD – The Howard Community College (HCC) Dance Program, with the support of the Howard County Arts Council, will present its annual Howard County Community Dance Festival Gala Saturday, February 10, 2018, continuing the tradition of bringing compelling dance to the greater Baltimore region. The performance will take place in HCC’s Smith Theatre, located within the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA) at 7 p.m. This captivating and eclectic concert will feature the work of professional dance artists from the Washington, DC and Baltimore areas, as well as the HCC Dance Program.
Perennial favorite, ClancyWorks Dance Company opens the gala with a contemporary modern premiere. The Washington Post has referred to choreographer Adrienne Clancy’s work as "Calmness and fluidity combined with intense physicality.” Hip-hop group Project ChArma, led by Chris and Ama Law, will bring their high energy group to the stage. Known for bridging Irish dance with cutting edge choreography, Teelin Irish Dance Company’s world-class Irish step dancers will enthrall the festival audience. HCC Dance Program faculty member Elizabeth Higgins' modern duet, Casual Conversations, features friends who communicate through quick, rhythmic gestures and movement to the music of the Charlie Hunter Trio. Orange Grove Dance’s powerful contemporary piece, a jazz inspired work by Full Circle Dance Company, and a video work by Autumn Mist Belk’s Code f.a.d. Company round out the show.
The Howard Community College Dance Festival Gala will take place at the HVPA, located at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, Maryland. The gala is part of the two-day Howard County Community Dance Festival, which serves area dancers as young as eleven years old.
