Funding Available to Support Students Impacted by COVID-19

Students Now Have Opportunity to Fund Their Future
Student celebrates graduation from HCC

Howard Community College (HCC) announced special funding opportunities to help students impacted by COVID-19 start or continue their education. All HCC students who have been impacted by COVID-19 and are registered at the time of awarding are eligible.

“The new COVID-19 special funding available to Howard Community College students is critically important in helping students to continue pursuing their educational goals,” said Tamika Bybee, Howard Community College director of financial aid services. “We want all of our current and prospective students, especially those impacted by COVID-19, to know that financial assistance is available to help them afford and succeed in college.”

The COVID-19 impact may include loss of personal or family income; increased utility bills; changes in childcare, food, healthcare, or housing needs; technology-related costs, or expenses incurred as a result of the changes to course format and instruction. As part of the process to be considered for the COVID-19 special funding, students will be required to accept HCC’s mandatory aid agreements.

New guidance now ensures DACA students, Maryland Dream Act students, undocumented students, and international students are eligible for this special funding. High school dual enrollment students and current HCC students are also eligible.

To date, Howard Community College has awarded nearly $5.8 million in federal funding to 4,480 students to support their college education through this special funding. Another $4 million is available in funding for fall and again in spring 2022. In addition, Howard Community College provides more than $1.89 million in scholarships each year.

Howard Community College offers financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, work-study, and other assistance to students, which includes but is not limited to emergency funds for books and associated course materials. To be considered for additional funding through HCC scholarships, students should submit a HCC scholarship application,

Howard Community College will be fully operational for the fall semester, with classes starting August 28 in face-to-face, hybrid, scheduled remote, and flexible online formats. For a full list of credit classes, visit
