Fiscal Year 2017 Meeting Dates Set for the Board of Trustees

Columbia, MD – The board of trustees has set the dates for its regular meetings, work sessions, and committee meetings during fiscal year 2017. The college’s process for notifying the media of meeting changes or additions has been revised. In the future, changes or additions to the meetings will be announced on the news page of the Howard Community College (HCC) website, which is located at: www.howardcc.edu/news.

*The board of trustees of HCC is authorized by the Maryland Open Meetings Act, Title 3 of the General Provisions Article § 3-305 (b) to conduct certain portions of its meetings in closed session. Therefore, the board will conduct a portion of its December 13, 2016, and June 7, 2017, meetings in closed session at the conclusion of the regular session or retreat in The Rouse Company Foundation Student Services Hall “to discuss the appointment, employment, assignment, promotion, discipline, demotion, compensation, removal, resignation, or performance evaluation of an appointee, employee, or official over whom it has jurisdiction; any other personnel matter that affects one or more specific individuals,” as permitted under § 3-305 (b)(1).

Citizens who wish to present any matter of concern pertaining to the community college to the board of trustees shall make written request to the secretary-treasurer of the board at least 72 hours prior to the regularly scheduled public meeting, in order that the matter may be included on the agenda for the meeting. In emergency situations, the board may, by a majority vote, give visitors who have not presented a written request in advance an opportunity to present their concerns to the board in any regular public meeting. The board, in recognition of the need to complete its business within reasonable time, reserves the right to terminate a presentation of this nature.
