Fifth Annual Howard Community College 5K Challenge Race Raises Over $100,000 for Student Scholarships

Columbia, MD – It was an eventful day at Howard Community College (HCC) on Sunday, October 14, 2018, where more than 450 participants flocked to the college’s campus to run, climb, and crawl an obstacle-filled course for the fifth annual 5K Challenge Race, presented by Havtech. With support from 70 sponsoring organizations and companies, in addition to college employee, student, and alumni teams, the HCC Educational Foundation raised $111,300 to support student scholarships. 

The overall Corporate Challenge Champion goes to Harkins Builders.

Sponsoring organizations also competed for one of seven challenges, with winners as follows: Howard County Police (Challenge Award); Havtech (Design & Construction Challenge); M&T Bank (Finance Challenge); In-Depth Engineering (Information Technology Challenge); Corporate Office Properties Trust (Real Estate Challenge); Columbia Association Athletic Club (Wellness Challenge); and Huddles, Jones, Sorteberg & Dachille (Professional Services Challenge). The Rob and Ann Moxley sponsored faculty/staff team won the HCC Alumni, Faculty/Staff category, and radiological technology students claimed the HCC Student Team Award. 

Winners of the fastest course time were Stewart Reich (15:59.98) of Morgan Keller Construction and Chrissy Smith (22:07.11) of Revere Bank.
