Dr. Daria J. Willis Published in Community College Daily

Dr. Daria J. Willis, Howard Community College president, was published in Community College Daily for Women’s History Month. Her article “Getting to the top while being true to yourself,” takes the reader through her professional journey.

In the article, Dr. Willis addresses the places from where she draws strength and encouragement, “I am proud of my heritage, and I am proud to have been a first-generation student to college, former student parent and now a college president. I truly am living my ancestors’ wildest dreams.” While she does not shy away from speaking about the challenges she has faced and is still facing today, she also shares some good advice for the leaders coming behind her, “You care less about some of your colleagues’ comments and underhanded behavior, and you deliberately choose joy.”

Always keeping her mission top of mind, she does it for the students, “My students also deserve to see their college president doing it her way, wearing her crown with her head held high.”
