Bestselling Author, Veteran, and Entrepreneur Wes Moore to Speak at Howard Community College November 3

Bestselling author Wes Moore will speak at Howard Community College Monday, November 3 about his journey as a young man with academic and behavioral struggles to a proud college graduate, Rhodes Scholar, and Army combat veteran. His book, The Other Wes Moore, chronicles his life and the life of another Baltimore man named Wes Moore, who now serves time in prison for murder. The book became an instant New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller that conveys the importance of individual decisions as well as community support.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 12:45 p.m. in the Smith Theatre, located in the Horowitz Performing Arts Center, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. Moore will be available afterward to sign books.

Moore’s next book, The Work, which will be released in January, looks at how Moore discovered meaning in his work and how he found that meaning in service. In addition to his books, Moore is the host of “Beyond Belief” on the Oprah Winfrey Network and Executive Producer and host of “Coming Back with Wes Moore” on PBS.

A graduate of Valley Forge Military College and Johns Hopkins University, Moore earned a master’s degree from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in 2004. Upon graduation, Moore served as a paratrooper and Captain in the United States Army, participating in a combat tour of duty in Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Moore is committed to helping young people redirect their lives and supporting the parents, teachers, mentors and volunteers who care for, and work with, our nation’s youth. While a student at Johns Hopkins he founded STAND!, which works with Baltimore youth involved in the criminal justice system and still exists today. More recently, Moore is the founder and CEO of BridgeEdU, an innovative college completion platform.

A portion of the proceeds from sales of The Other Wes Moore are being donated to the U.S. Dream Academy and City Year.
