Answers to Your Enrollment Questions

Ready to apply to HCC? Or do you need help registering for classes? While the college is closed for winter break from December 24, 2021 through January 2, 2022, please find the answers to frequently asked questions below. Our admissions and advising team will be available to assist you when the college reopens on January 3, 2022.

FAQ's for All Students

How do I apply for admission?

You can apply to HCC online. The first step is to create an account, then you can start the application. Find an instructional video here.

I have applied for admissions—now what?

You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application for admission to HCC. As soon as your application has been reviewed, you will receive a series of Next Steps emails that will guide you through each step of the enrollment process. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the virtual New Student Orientation to familiarize yourself with all HCC resources. You may sign in as a Guest: https://www.go2orientation.com/howardcc.

What are my HCC login credentials?

Your student ID number can be found in your acceptance letter. To view your acceptance letter, log into your HCC application account then click “View” then “Decision History”. Your HCC student ID number is at the bottom of the letter (you may have to click “enable editing” to see it). The HCC Login ID is your first initial, last name (up to 7 letters), and last 4 digits of your HCC student ID number.

With your HCC Login ID, you can now create your password. View our “How To” video with steps to set up your HCC Credentials Setting Up Your HCC Credentials - YouTube.

How do I meet with an advisor?

The college is closed for winter break from December 24, 2021 – January 2, 2022. Our advising office will re-open on Jan. 3, 2022. At that time, you can meet with an advisor virtually or in-person on campus. Learn more.

If I am currently a JumpStart student and want to attend HCC after high school, do I need to reapply?

You only need to reapply if you plan to apply to Freshman Focus, Silas Craft, or our Honors Program.

When I apply for admission do I need to submit my transcripts?

You should always submit previous high school and college transcripts. Your high school transcript helps determine if you need placement testing and may be needed for financial aid purposes. Previous college transcripts can often assist in transferring credits reducing your time and cost at HCC.

How do I transfer credits from other institutions I’ve attended?

If you are not looking to complete a degree program, you can provide an unofficial transcript to an advisor for a review of what courses you are eligible for, we can then submit a waiver for you to register.

If you plan to complete an associate degree at HCC, you will need to go through an official transcript evaluation process. Learn how to submit your transcripts for evaluation. This process can take 2-4 weeks to complete, then an academic advisor can help you plan and register for courses.

Why am I having trouble registering for classes?

A few helpful hints:

  1. Make sure you are on the correct term

  1. Make sure you have planned an appropriate section of the course that you need

  1. If you are still having issues, you may contact the Registrar’s Office after the college reopens on January 3, 2022 at register@howardcc.edu or ask a question of an academic advisor at advising@howardcc.edu. BE SURE TO CONTACT US USING YOUR HCC EMAIL ACCOUNT.

How do I drop a class after I have registered for it?

You can always drop/swap classes before the class begins. You will want to review the drop deadline dates for your classes in MyHCC. Watch this video to learn more.

When searching for courses I noticed that there are some without times listed. Why aren’t there any times on the classes?

These courses are flexible online classes. This means that there is no “scheduled” meeting time. You are expected to review the course content and to do the work on your own time. However, please note it is still imperative that you meet the required deadlines.

FAQ’s for Clinical Nursing and Allied Health Students:

I tried to register for my four spring clinical courses as part of the allied health program, however I keep receiving an error message.

When registering for your four clinical spring 2022 courses, ensure you use the green register button in the upper right-hand corner of your screen to register for all four courses simultaneously. Since the courses are all co-requisites of each other, if you try to register for each course separately, you will continue to receive an error message.

How do I apply for the clinical nursing and allied health programs?

Start here: Nursing and Allied Health Admissions | Howard Community College (howardcc.edu). For application questions, email alliedhealthapplications@howardcc.edu. Please note, the college is closed December 24, 2021 – January 3, 2022 for winter break. We will respond to your message when we return to the office, during normal business hours.

How do I find out the status of my clinical nursing or allied health supplemental application?

The admissions and advising office will send all updates to your HCC email when we return to campus in January – that is when many of the clinical program application deadlines occur. You may also review admissions requirements and dates for your specific program by visiting: Nursing and Allied Health Admissions | Howard Community College (howardcc.edu). Additionally, your application questions may be sent to alliedhealthapplications@howardcc.edu.
