At Laurel College Center, Students Can Earn an Associate Degree, then Pursue Bachelors, All in One Location

LCC Students

Earning a college degree is one of the biggest steps towards getting ahead in life, whether it is to advance career prospects or enhance job skills. And, for many students convenience, along with a supportive and personalized college experience is key to achieving those goals. This is where Laurel College Center can help.

“The Laurel College Center is a very special place,” said Nancy Grinberg, program coordinator at LCC. “As a partnership of two well respected institutions, LCC truly expands the educational opportunities in Laurel and the surrounding area.

“The dedicated LCC staff create a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment. Our classes are offered during the day, evening, and weekends to accommodate our students’ busy lives. We are here, ready to help all our students reach their educational goals, whatever they might be.”

The LCC was established in 2001 as a partnership between HCC and Prince George’s Community College (PGCC). Partner colleges and universities – University of Maryland, University of Maryland Global Campus, and Morgan State University offer bachelor’s and advanced degree programs, allowing many students to earn their associate degree and bachelor’s degree all at the Laurel location.

Associate degree programs include general studies and business administration, with bachelor’s degree programs in criminal justice, information systems management, cybersecurity, social sciences and psychology. University of Maryland also offers a master’s certification program in elementary education. Continuing education and noncredit courses are also available to those who want to enhance skills, advance credentials, or simply explore an interest.

Students have access to a variety of support services and resources, including academic advising, tutoring, computer labs, a virtually library, and more. And, students enjoy smaller class size and one-on-one opportunities with instructors.

“The classes are smaller and quieter,” said Prince Nwankoa, who began his college experience during the summer of 2018 at PGCC, working towards an associate degree in business administration. “I found it much easier to focus in class. I got to know my peers and my instructors very well, and that opened up opportunities for me to get involved with what was happening on campus, outside of class time.”

And, students often find more than what they were looking for once enrolled at LCC. A few semesters ago, Akuele Wokpor decided to take a class at LCC because it was not available at HCC that semester. Her experience gave her much more that college credits.

She says that faculty from both campuses played a significant role in making her educational experience a good one. She describes her teachers as knowledgeable, helpful, and humble.

“They have a plan for each student,” she said. “I feel at home. I am in a good place and feel fortunate to be learning here.”
