Kids on Campus Keeps Growing

Kids on Campus.

Think things quiet down at HCC during the summer months? Think again.

This summer, more than 1,800 youths, ranging in age from six to 17, will make HCC “the fun place to be,” as they embark on up to eight weeks of enrichment, exploration, and adventure. Kids on Campus will celebrate 32 years, but 2019 promises to be the most diverse season yet, with new and innovative programs added.

“We’ve added a lot of interesting new things based on input we heard from last summer’s surveys,” said Elizabeth Watson, senior director of continuing education and community development. “We take the comments we receive from students, parents, and our instructors to heart, and add the specific programs that people are most interested in having us offer.”

Creepy Crawlers merges science and art to teach kids fascinating facts about bugs, their interesting qualities, and their habitats. Students even have the opportunity to design and build a creepy crawler of their own. Mythical Monster Mayhem, also new this year, invites campers on a journey to a magical, faraway land, where the legends of unicorns, centaurs, ogres, and trolls will be brought to life through stories, crafts, and games galore.

Musically-inclined tweens and teens will not want to miss Audio Design, which will focus on music and audio production and editing to create custom beats, melodies, and harmonies. Speed and Agility Training is for those who are interested in improving their athletic strength and stamina. Fortnite™ lovers will have a chance to build levels and assets for their own Fortnight™-style game, rather than just play the game if they register for Battle Royal: Make Your First Fortnite™-Style Video Game. And Hogwarts Experience offers an enchanted week of all things Harry Potter, from making potions and caring for magical creatures to taste testing the famous Three Broomsticks Butterbeer (no alcohol involved).

As for those courses that have earned a reputation as “fan favorites,” they will return again this year. Oooo Goo and Stinky Too will be offered again this year, along with Partners with Potter, Drone Pilot 101, and Junior Medic. A complete listing of all courses, along with all of the forms necessary for enrollment, is available online at

“Our camps give kids a chance to try new and different things, simply for the joy of learning,” said Megan D’Andrade, continuing education specialist. “They can take a Japanese class without having to worry about grades, or a coding class without having to find time to do the homework that comes along with it. Kids on Campus is about exploring and having fun.”
