HCC Teams With Giant Food to Stock Food Pantry for Students
Columbia, MD – Howard Community College (HCC) is teaming up with Giant Food on September 23, 2017, to collect food and personal care items for the college’s food pantry, a resource to help combat food insecurity for students.
Students and other HCC representatives will be on site at all seven Giant Food locations in Howard County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to pass out shopping lists to customers and ask for donations of these most needed items.
The HCC Food Pantry provides food and personal care items to students who are struggling to afford basic necessities. Reliable access to affordable, nutritious food can help alleviate the stress of food insecurity, and help students focus on success in the classroom.
“We are serving at least one hundred HCC students per month, and want to be able to help even more,” said Schnell R. Garrett, director of student life. “The community support to keep our pantry stocked has been amazing. Our food pantry helps to overcome a potential barrier for students to meet their educational goals.
“I am excited and grateful to Giant for this drive. I know it is going to yield huge rewards for our students.”
