Howard Community College to Celebrate Korean Students Completing English Language and Culture Immersion Program

Culmination of Cultural and Educational Exchange with Naju City, Republic of Korea

A group of 30 rising ninth grade students from Korea will be honored at Howard Community College Monday afternoon for successfully completing an English language and American culture immersion program. The students spent two weeks taking English classes and participating in field trips to learn about Maryland. Trips included visiting the Howard County Fair, attending a Baltimore Orioles baseball game, and learning about Maryland and Howard County government through visits to the Howard County Executive and Maryland’s First Lady.

Howard Community College President Kate Hetherington signed an agreement with Naju City Mayor In Kyu Kang last summer to develop the cultural and educational exchange. Naju City is the hometown of Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan. In Howard County, Maryland, approximately 12,000 residents are of Korean descent, which amounts to four percent of the county’s population.
