Howard Community College Presents “Wonder of the World” October 13-16

Columbia, MD – The Howard Community College (HCC) Theatre Program presents David Lindsay-Abaire’s “Wonder of the World” October 13–16 in the Studio Theatre. Directed by Theatre and Dance Department Chair Bill Gillett, “Wonder of the World” will feature current HCC students and guest artists who will bring this ridiculous yet poignant story to life for audiences.
"Hefty laughter. David Lindsay-Abaire's ‘Wonder of the World’ is exceedingly whimsical and playfully wicked. Winning and genial. A top-drawer production." – New York Times
"Full frontal lunacy is on display. A most assuredly fresh and hilarious tragicomedy of marital discord run amok. Lindsay-Abaire's flair for the absurd combines nicely with an ability to pull laughs out of any situation. Absolutely hysterical!" – Variety
Nothing will prepare you for the dirty little secret Cass discovers in her husband's sweater drawer. The shock sends our heroine fleeing to Niagara Falls, the honeymoon capital of the world, on a desperate and hilarious adventure, frantically searching for the life she thinks she missed out on. Cass is on a topsy-turvy ride where she becomes entangled with a blithely suicidal alcoholic, a lonely tour-boat captain, and a pair of bickering private detectives. All of these lives are swirling in the downwash of Niagara, connected by a strange caper involving a massive jar of peanut butter. An undeniable force inevitably leads Cass to a thrilling ride towards the Falls in a barrel of laughs.
“The students and community members in our cast are having a blast bringing these characters to life,” said Gillett. “I believe audiences will be both touched and a little shocked by this play, as our protagonist grapples with her meaning in life. She is compensating for a life she believes is unlived, by making spontaneous and radical choices, trying desperately not to leave anything out.”
Performances are October 13–15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 16 at 2:30 p.m. at HCC’s Studio Theatre, which is located in the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, Maryland.
