Felícita Solá-Carter Named to Howard Community College Board of Trustees

Columbia, MD – Felícita Solá-Carter has been appointed as the newest member of the Howard Community College Board of Trustees.

A resident of Ellicott City, Felícita Solá-Carter will serve as trustee through April 2020. Solá-Carter has her own consulting business, in which she serves as an executive development coach to government executives and provides training in the areas of leadership and diversity strategies. Since starting her business in 2009, she has worked for federal agencies, national organizations, and county programs.

During her 38 years with the U.S. Social Security Administration, Solá-Carter started as a claims representative in New York City, before advancing into progressively higher-level management positions in the region. She relocated to the agency’s Baltimore headquarters in 1991 to serve as senior advisor to the principal deputy commissioner. She concluded her career as the assistant deputy commissioner for human resources/deputy chief human capital officer.

In addition to her role on the Howard Community College Board of Trustees, she is a board member at the Horizon Foundation and a senior advisor to the Federal Training Institute’s League of United Latin American Citizens. Previously she served as board member and president of Conexiones, a nonprofit volunteer organization advocating for Hispanic student achievement, and as a member of advisory councils and committees with the Howard County Public School System.

She has received recognition for both her federal government service and community service. As a Social Security Administration executive, she was awarded Presidential Rank Awards for Distinguished Executive and Meritorious Executive, and the Daily Record named her one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 2008. Within Howard County, she received the Leadership Howard County Unsung Hero Award and was named to the Howard County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2014.

Solá-Carter holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York.
