License to Ride

Two Friends Rev Up Their Ride With the Basic Rider Course

Students who take our Basic Rider course (BRC) crave adventure and usually have wanted to ride for a long time. The best way to learn — and earn a license — is to take the BRC at The Rider School. That's what brought new riders Niran Lakhanpal and Josh Goldberg to HCC this summer.

Niran and Josh, two longtime friends who grew up in the same neighborhood in Clarksville, share their experience with us after stepping off their motorcycles at The Rider School for the first time.

Q: Why are you taking the Basic Rider course?
Niran: I’d like to begin riding the motorcycle that I just purchased, a Kawasaki Ninja 250R. I purchased this specific bike because of the reviews it got for being the best hands-on, beginner bike for new riders.

I don’t know anyone that could teach me and I want to learn the proper way so that I can ride legally. It’s been something that I’ve wanted to do for a while. First, I spoke with my former Spanish teacher about it. She had taken this same class. Every time I would see someone riding, I would ask them about how they learned and they all would recommend this class – some had taken this class at HCC.

Josh: I want to get my motorcycle license and thought it would be fun to ride a motorcycle on a good day. I heard about the class from Niran.

Q: What has been the most surprising part of the course so far?
Niran: I have ridden a motorcycle before in India, so nothing is terribly too surprising. I’m having a lot of fun riding.

Josh: How easy it is – I thought it would be hard to switch gears and it really isn’t hard at all.

Q: Would you recommend this course to other people who want to learn how to ride?
Niran: Definitely, if you are in a situation like ours.

Josh: Yes, if you’re starting out. The instructors teach good habits that you should pay attention to, to ride safely.
