Fall 2022 Bauder Lecture: Gabriel Bump

Howard Community College and the Bauder Lecture series present Gabriel Bump, author of Everywhere You Don’t Belong, on Thursday, September 22, 12:30pm-1:30pm, in the HCC Smith Theatre, and streamed online via Vimeo. The novel, a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of 2020 and an Electric Lit Favorite Novel of 2020, has earned Bump several awards, including the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence, the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award for Fiction, the Heartland Booksellers Award for Fiction, the Deborah Slosberg Memorial Award for Fiction, and the Black Caucus of the American Library Association’s First Novelist Award. His work has been featured in several publications including Slam magazine, Springhouse Journal, and Huffington Post. Bump grew up in South Shore, Chicago, received his MFA in fiction from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and now lives in Buffalo, New York.  Bump will be joined by writer and attorney Tyrese L. Coleman. Coleman's debut collection of stories and essays, How to Sit, was published by Mason Jar Press in 2018 and nominated for a 2019 PEN Open Book Award. Her work has appeared as a notable in Best American Essays 2018 and 2016 and nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
