    • [CANCELED] Emma K. McDonnell: “Technicolor Familiar: Illustrations by E. K. McDonnell”: EXHIBIT OPENS
[CANCELED] Emma K. McDonnell: “Technicolor Familiar: Illustrations by E. K. McDonnell”: EXHIBIT OPENS Time: 10:00am - 9:00pm Locations: Richard B. Talkin Family Art Gallery Details:

      THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

Technicolor Familiar encapsulates the current iteration of McDonnell's personal art practice. The name was adopted in 2018 to reflect the evolution taking place in her artwork; "technicolor" for highly saturated palettes, and "familiar" for creatures connected to magic and the occult. Anachronistic in style and symbolism, Technicolor Familiar exists somewhere between surrealism, pop art, medieval altarpieces, and Western esotericism. This new body of work draws inspiration from the (un)natural world, astrology, alchemy, dreams and the subconscious.

Emma K. McDonnell has been a practicing illustrator for nearly a decade, providing original artwork for theatre companies up and down the East Coast, including Pig Pen Theatre Co., Third Rail Projects LLC, and HCC's very own Arts Collective. As a fine art illustrator, McDonnell primarily works with traditional media, combining bold colors and delicate mark-making to generate small-scale, intimate illustrations. She received an AA in Studio Art from HCC and a BFA in Illustration from the Art Institute of Boston, and had been applying her formal visual art education to creative jobs in the performing arts ever since.

You can find Emma’s artwork on her website: ekmcdonnell.com or follow her on Facebook and Instagram: @technicolorfamiliar

    • [POSTPONED] “Creative Quest: Art From the Holocaust’s Second Generation” : EXHIBIT OPENS
[POSTPONED] “Creative Quest: Art From the Holocaust’s Second Generation” : EXHIBIT OPENS Time: 10:00am - 9:00pm Locations: The Rouse Company Foundation Gallery Details:

Creative Quest: Art from the Holocaust's Second Generation

      THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

While not experiencing the Holocaust firsthand, children of survivors are nonetheless profoundly affected by it.

The seven artists in this exhibit are children of Holocaust survivors. They are individual voices of the Second Generation. These artists work from/against/with the impact of a family history they know or sense from their interactions with surviving family members. The subject matter of their work, the materials they use, and the themes they address reflect the intense nature of their family history. In some of the work, it is clear what informs the artistic process; while in other works, the connection is more subtle. It can be how paint is applied, or absences reflected, or even the scale of the pieces. These artists express a belief in art, and through art have found their individual voices and visions in relation to the Holocaust.

All of the art, in some way, has been affected by an “inherited” history permanently interwoven through the lives and works of these artists.

The gallery is free open to the public from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily
