The Red Shoes is a 1948 romantic drama based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about a ballerina torn between her career and a life with the man she loves. Technicolor founders Herbert T. Kalmus and Natalie Kalmus considered this film the best example of Three-Strip Technicolor. Dancer Gene Kelly was so inspired by The Red Shoes that he persuaded MGM executives to follow up with 1951’s An American In Paris. Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, and starring Anton Walbrook, Marius Goring, and Moira Shearer. 2 hours, 15 minutes.
