FILM DISCUSSION: The Shop Around The Corner

The Shop Around the Corner is a 1940 romantic comedy where two employees at a gift shop who don't get along in real life fall in love with each other through an anonymous mail correspondence. In 1998’s You've Got Mail, which is based on this film, Meg Ryan's character owns a bookstore named The Shop Around The Corner. This film was reportedly the favorite of all director Ernst Lubitsch's films (also known for Trouble in Paradise, Design for Living, Ninotchka, To Be or Not to Be and Heaven Can Wait). Directed by Ernst Lubitsch and starring Margaret Sullavan, James Stewart, and Frank Morgan. 1 hour, 39 minutes.
