More details about computer lab software
HCC’s open computer study labs are available for students, faculty, staff, and alumni with current HCC login credentials. Choose a computer and log in using your HCC login ID and password. HCC Alumni memberships allowing use of the computer labs can be purchased by HCC graduates and former students. Non-students may purchase a computer lab pass from the college Cashier. Check with lab staff if you need further information or help with login.
The computer study labs are staffed by lab consultants and help desk technicians who are happy to assist you with software, hardware and technology questions or problems. Due to our "quiet" rules and limited staff, we cannot provide personal tutoring. We also cannot help students complete assigned class work. Students needing priority access computers, such as raised desk stations, PCs with scanners, or stations with specialized software (Studio 8, AutoCAD, for example), may ask lab staff to relocate a student using the station needed.
If you require other special assistance or accommodations in the computer study lab, please see the lab staff or contact the Technology Help Desk in advance to discuss what you need. You may also refer to the Academic Support Services website for information about tutoring and other services to assist students in their studies.
We install software that automatically reboots the computers after 10 minutes of inactivity. Personal files unsaved, or saved on the PC, are deleted when the computer reboots or the student logs off. Therefore, we recommend that you save your work frequently to your personal USB flash drive or in your StudentWeb folder. This folder is network storage space provided by the college. Files saved on StudentWeb folders are accessible via the Internet, on or off campus.
Computer lab rules. We strive to provide a quiet academic environment where students can study, practice skills presented in class, and complete homework assignments. Please review the lab rules so you know our expectations. Individual recreational computer use is permitted in the open labs, but students working on assignments are given priority to computers when the lab is full. Use of cell phones, food and beverages are not permitted in the computer labs.
Acceptable use of campus technology. When you register for classes at HCC, you agree to abide by certain rules and regulations when using college technology resources. For more information, scroll through the policies to locate the acceptable use of campus technology policy.
Work in the lab. If you are interested in working in one of the college computer study labs, please print this form, fill it out and it in to the lab staff.
